Mezzanine Floors are extremely durable and functional as well as being the perfect solution to space issues.

Advantages of installing a Mezzanine Floor

One assumes that the reason for considering a Mezzanine Floor is that you need extra space within your existing building.  Listed below are the advantages and potential uses of Mezzanine Floors:

The advantages of Mezzanine Floors

1.       Creating space out of nothing

2.       They do not require extra land

3.       They are also quick to manufacture

4.       Far less disruption than moving premises.

Uses of Mezzanine Floors

·         Retail

·         Industrial buildings - Warehousing

·         Exhibition space

·         Galleries in public buildings

·         Church balconies

·         Outside balconies for leisure facilities

Mezzanine Floors are usually made from a combination of steel and concrete.   The type of steel used will depend on the use required but as general rule it will be structural steel as this is both the strongest and cheapest.   However, if you were going to use the Mezzanine Floor to increase office space then the slightly more expensive rolled or stainless steel may be used.   There is also no limit to the finishes or colours that are available.  Mezzanine Floors are extremely durable and functional as well as being the perfect solution to space issues.

Mezzanine Floors – great choice for extra space.

Mezzanine Floors are made of the most durable of materials – structural steel, stainless steel or rolled steel.  They can provide many different storage or space solutions and are extremely economical.   Installing a Mezzanine Floor can increase the space available in your warehouse or factory.  Mezzanine Floors are actually secondary floors – they are built in the space between two floors.  All that is required is that there is enough height between the existing floor and ceiling.

Depending on the design and type of material used, columns will be required to support  the Mezzanine Floor .   These columns have base plates which are used to hold steel pillars that then support the main structure of the Mezzanine Floor.  However, it will depend upon the  ‘weight bearing’ required to determine how many columns will be needed.  This may be important if you require the use of a forklift truck to move around the stock.  If this is the case you may need to change the material from structural steel – which is the strongest and cheapest – to a lighter steel such as rolled or stainless.

To finish off, the Mezzanine Floor can be decked with either wood or steel depending on the purpose.

Mezzanine Floors – the space saving alternative to moving!

Mezzanine Floors – the space saving alternative to moving!

Mezzanine Floors are fast becoming the most popular answer to ‘under capacity’ in Warehouse storage.   Mezzanine Floors  use the space that may be available over head in an innovative way to increase capacity – of course the space does need to be there in the first place.  This is the reason  Mezzanine Floors  are known as the  ‘floor between floors’, as it is this space that is used.

It may not just be storage space that is limited in your warehouse it may also be that you require additional office space.  A Mezzanine Floor can be used just as easily for that.  However, it would be worth bearing in mind that for offices, the health and safety regulations may be just a little more stringent and you may require the support of your local authority.

Mezzanine Floors are also a very good way to display goods in an innovative way.  That is why you often see them  in art galleries and places where exhibitions are held.

The Mezzanine Floors that are made by professional companies are all manufactured out of strong durable materials such as structural steel and can sometimes be ‘stand alone’ structures, which means they are completely independent of the actual building itself.

Mezzanine Floors – They are OK!

Mezzanine Floors – They are OK!

What comes to your mind when you think about Mezzanine Floors?   Space saving?  Public buildings, Retail outlets, Exhibition space or Art  Galleries maybe?  Well, Mezzanine Floors can be found in many different places and are extremely versatile.   The great thing about Mezzanine Floors is that they use existing space that could, if not utilised, go to waste.  Warehouses are where Mezzanine Floors come into their own – many warehouses have a large amount of ‘headroom’  or overhead capacity.  This is the space that is used when installing a Mezzanine Floor.  Provided the figures add up – i.e. there is enough space a Mezzanine Floor can be installed.

Every Mezzanine Floor is unique and is usually designed by an expert who works alongside the company to discuss exactly what their requirements re as well as looking at what is feasible and doable.  Once this has been established it is a very quick step to create drawings that can them be used to manufacture the Mezzanine Floor that will match your needs perfectly.

Another aspect is that by installing a Mezzanine Floor it may indirectly mean an increase in your company profits  - increase the capacity – increase your profit.

Mezzanine Floors - Materials used

Mezzanine Floors - Materials used

Mezzanine Floors are considered to be one of the best ways of utilising unused ‘head space’ in buildings.  They are commonly referred to as the ‘floor between floors’ and can be used for a myriad of different purposes.  However, this purpose will be dependent on the materials used.

Mezzanine Floors - Warehouses

Mezzanine Floors in warehouses will need to be constructed in a strong durable material that can withstand heavy loads.  Generally the type of material used in the construction of Mezzanine Floors in warehouses is structural steel.  The advantages of this are that it is the cheapest and the strongest material but one of the disadvantages is that it requires more pillars to hold it up and can therefore impede the space – this will be an issue if fork lift trucks are required to move stock around

Mezzanine Floors – Retail

If the Mezzanine Floor is going to be used in a retail setting then the look of the Mezzanine may be an important factor.  This may mean that the material of choice would be stainless steel which although the most expensive – is the most attractive.

Mezzanine Floors – Production

If the Mezzanine Floor is going to be used as an extra production line then it may be strength and safety that are the most important – in which case the choice would be structural steel.

It is worth remembering that Mezzanine Floors come in all shapes, sizes and colours – whatever is required they can be adapted to suit your purpose.

Installing a Mezzanine Floor – Research required

Installing a Mezzanine Floor – Research required

Installing a Mezzanine Floor does require some research.   This is the case with any business decision needs financial outlay.   The good news here is that the financial outlay required for a Mezzanine Floor will be so much cheaper than other options – namely, moving or building an extension onto the existing building.

Three basic questions need answering:

·         Have you got the necessary overhead capacity required?

·         Is a Mezzanine Floor really the solution to your problem?

·         Have you got enough finance?

A  Mezzanine Floor will be the solution if you need the extra space for storage.  Mezzanine Floors are particularly useful for increasing storage space in warehouses.  However, they are equally useful for increasing exhibition space, building a gallery and for increasing office capacity.   Mezzanine Floors can also be used as ‘grand stands’ for viewing sporting events and are excellent for rugby and cricket grounds.

They can also be free standing structures or built into the overall structure of the building – this depends on the purpose it is needed for.  Mezzanine Floors will add value to your premises as well as the potential for extra growth.  Next time you go to an out of town shopping centre – just look and see where Mezzanine Floors are perhaps seen most often.

Is a Mezzanine Floor the solution to your space problems?

When planning for the future in your company sometimes the question of extra space needs a solution.  You may be faced with the decision to move premises or face the issues that arise due from lack of available space.  If moving is not an option, due to financial constraints, then installing a Mezzanine Floor may be an option you have not considered before.  A Mezzanine Floor can be installed anywhere provided there is enough overhead space.

There are many examples in London, Leeds -  in fact businesses in all the major cities of the country are installing Mezzanine Floors and seeing the size of their company double overnight.  Just imagine what an extra floor would mean to you?  Mezzanine Floors can be built to fit practically any size building and are designed and installed by teams of experts that help you through the process from start to finish.

Perhaps the first thing to think about is for what purpose would the Mezzanine Floor be used – could it be that the extra space is required for new offices?  Or perhaps, and much more commonly, Mezzanine Floors are used in warehouses to increase storage capacity.

Installing a Mezzanine Floor could overcome your storage problems

If the current space you have does not meet the requirements of your business then maybe a Mezzanine Floor could be the answer?  Maybe you have not got enough funds to move premises but need extra space then perhaps a Mezzanine Floor could be the answer?   In today’s economic climate it is still important to try and increase profits and increase productivity – perhaps increasing capacity could be the answer?  What if you were able to increase the floor space of your business by 100%?   So, if you have unused space overhead then what about installing a Mezzanine Floor?

Mezzanine Floors are generally bespoke and conform to all the necessary health and safety regulations.  Sometimes Mezzanine Floors will need the permission of the Local Authority but they are generally looked upon very favourably no extra land is required to install them.

It may be that the extra space you require is to create a new production line or as a new exhibition space to help show off  your products.  Alternatively the Mezzanine Floor could be used to increase the amount of office space – this may require further research as to whether planning permission is required or not.  However, the most widely known use of Mezzanine Floors is to increase the storage potential of warehouses – but they are extremely versatile and can be used just as effectively in the domestic situation.   In fact a Mezzanine Floor could be used for virtually anything you want.

What are Mezzanine Floors made of..

What are Mezzanine Floors  made of..

One of the best ways currently to utilise unused capacity in warehouses is to install a Mezzanine Floor.  There is only one requirement and that is, that the space between floor and ceiling is adequate for the Mezzanine Floor to be fitted.  The other surprising thing is – provided there is enough clearance – more than one Mezzanine Floor can be installed.

The benefits of Mezzanine Floors can best be observed in warehouses where the installation of a Mezzanine Floor can double or sometimes triple the amount of space for storage made available.

Mezzanine Floors are made out of structural steel.  This material ensures that the Mezzanine Floor can be used to carry very heavy loads.   Structural steel is a very strong material and the design of the Mezzanine Floor can be made even stronger by the addition of extra pillars to hold the floor up.

Structural steel is the cheapest material used in the manufacture but if you were more interested in appearance rather than strength then stainless steel would be the material of choice – but it would cost more.   But it would still be cost effective if you weigh up the costs of installing a Mezzanine Floor or moving, the difference can run into thousands of pounds.

All Mezzanine Floors are bespoke – they are built to make the most of the space available and because they do not change the overall structure of the building can also be removed if required.

Mezzanine Floors may be the answer if you need more space

Mezzanine Floors may be the answer if you need more space

Mezzanine Floors are becoming more and more popular in Warehouses as an answer to space issues.   They use space in an innovative way to increase capacity.  The only criteria is that the warehouses have high ceilings, as a Mezzanine Floor is a floor between floors and it is this space that is used.

They are made of durable and robust strong steel which means they can be used for storage of heavy objects or for building extra office space.  Mezzanine Floors are used a lot in the types of storage that requires a high degree of racking and there are very good examples of this in Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol.

Another use of Mezzanine Floors, that is not quite so well known, is that a complete floor of offices can be constructed on them.  However, this will mean slightly more stringent health and safety measures as well as getting permission from the local authority.  The good news is that local authorities look very favourably on this type of development because Mezzanine Floors will not take up any more land.

Mezzanine Floors are constructed in such a way that is generally very straight forward and once the design has been agreed takes very little time to manufacture.  Mezzanine Floors do need experts to install but generally installation goes very smoothly without too many hitches.
